Step Right Up,
Reviews from VideoFitness
Everything about this video was terrible! It didn't seem planned at all, it was as if they just winged it. The use of the hand weights was too fast to be effective and very likely to cause injury. Everyone was just kind of waving their arms all over the place. The moves were repeated for so long, that one of the background exercisers asked if they could switch it up. Oh and the outfits, what a laugh! I read the reviews of this video before I bought it very cheaply on ebay and thought what the heck, why not try it? Well, as one reviewer mentioned, the outfits really really are vintage 70's. The hats had me in hysterics! Do NOT buy this! Unless you want a quick laugh that is..
When I was offered this video as an exchange, I hesitated because I couldn't find it on Charlene's web site. There is a good reason for that, the tape is both dated and outdated. Some use 12 inch steps and they all use hand weights. On top of that, the outfits are vintage 70's complete with colorful hats. My husband did get some yucks out of it. I find it hard to believe that someone would send me this for a primo tape without a warning. It quickly went on its way SASE to someone who likes to use it as a break from Cathe and high intensity. Hope you're not using the wts with it, LOL. Just goes to show that you should trust your instincts.
Charlene cues well, and isn't as super coordinated as many other instructors. I like that, makes me feel less of a geek.
I've always thought Charlene's high/low workouts were more fun than her step workouts, and I still do. But this one is better than some of her other step workouts. She has a tendency to stay on a move too long when she's doing step, but this one moves along faster.
As with all her workouts, the intensity is definitely there! This one is intermediate/advanced. The choreography is beginner/intermediate. The cool-down is done (on the bench) to a military cadence. It's different! The first time I thought it was a little hoaky, but I've decided it's okay. It certainly gets your attention! However, I would shorten it a verse or two -- it's a little longer than it needs to be.
If you're looking for high intensity with fairly basic choreography, you will probably like this. I give it a B.
